Hello! I’m Jayne and I am the Projects Manager at Terrain Group. This week I celebrate my 18th year with the Terrain Group team.

Nearly 20 years of serving clients has taught me that planning a project effectively right from the start lays the foundation for a successful outcome.

At Terrain Group, every single project that we undertake we commit to ensuring It’s both a great experience for our client and a project that is handled, managed and delivered with success. 

Here’s my three critical factors for a successful project:

1. Seek an end to end solution
2. Look for industry knowledge and experience
3. Communicate often

As an end-to-end provider of park furniture and open space products, we continually invest heavily in our ability to deliver a great end to end experience. From enquiry through to construction and delivery of a project – the foundation for this is great project management.

Project Management in simple terms ensures that proper expectations are set around what can be delivered, by when, and for how much. Without comprehensive project management, budget estimates and project delivery timelines can be set that are over-ambitious or lacking.

The purpose of my project management role at Terrain Group is to plan and manage a project to its successful completion. This comes with the responsibility of negotiating project goals, deliverables and milestones. Additionally, it involves daily check-ins to identify and manage risks, careful resource management, placing teams to dedicated job sites, budgeting, and clear communication across multiple teams and stakeholders during the course of any works.

In my experience, variations don’t go down well with councils, so we do our best to educate our clients about benefits of working with a contractor that not only can manage and procure the entire project form end to end, but also has the industry knowledge and experience to know what to look for. 20 years of visiting sites with Steve has taught me to check for connections early to avoid potential variations down the track.

One of the most important things in project management is communication. Good communication ensures at all times that key players are aligned on project goals and know exactly what’s expected of them. It also helps build team-wide trust, so everyone works better together on the project.

“sometimes it’s a day in the car going from site to site, checking deliverables and communicating with our team and the client.  This is what I love! When I see, and am part of, a project that was once maybe an empty space or barren earth, and to be part of an exciting project brings a spark of excitement. I also love to collaborate and listen to other ideas, document and gather inspirations from others, it’s what brings all this to life”.

At the end of the day, to participate in the vast range of projects that Terrain Group is involved in and currently working on is so rewarding. Most of all, the team support and relentless dedication to customer satisfaction is of vital importance, and we all stand by this value.
