New Restrooms Arrive In The Heart of Truro

Location Adelaide, SA
Sector Elements, Restroom

If you are traveling along the Sturt Highway to make your way from the Barossa or Blanchetown, you will most likely be travelling through the main street of Truro. Established in 1848 and located 80 km northeast of Adelaide, Truro is known as a popular stop-off for many hidden treasures.

In 2020 A tender was called for by Mid Murray Council to design, supply, and install a new public restroom building to replace ageing facilities located along the busy Sturt Highway precinct.

Terrain Group was the winning tenderer for this project and partnered with Mid Murray Council to build and install 6 spacious cubicles in a new building with a contemporary design, including both amenity and accessibility for both locals and visitors to the prominent location.

Scope of Works

From Start To Finish

As part of the tender process, Terrain Group proposed the All Aluminium series building design which included an overall 6-door restroom of which 2 of these were wheelchair-compliant cubicles.

The proposed restroom also included a rear service area along the length of building so the cisterns in the cubicles could be concealed and wall face buttons could only be seen for users. This service area created a more aesthetic appeal but also made way for maintenance and cleaning materials to be stored.

The new restroom building was installed in a new location to the existing block which meant the plumbing needed to be disconnected and the building demolished in a timely manner.

Terrain Group provided Mid Murray Council a complete building proposed render in selected colours for approval prior to manufacture.

“The new public toilet facilities, funded through the Australian Government Drought Communities Program, have enhanced both the streetscape and the visitor experience in Truro. The new toilets have improved accessibility for all, which in turn will provide comfort and convenience for visitors to the Truro area, which is a popular rest stop for travellers along the Sturt Highway. Council was pleased to collaborate with the Truro and District Community Association and the Terrain Group on this project, which will continue to deliver benefits to the local community”

Design and Functionality

For A Space In Demand

The restroom features include an all aluminuim construction, stainless steel pans and basins, soap dispensers, and 2 external stainless steel wash basins. The range and finishes were chosen to withstand its demand and test of time. Epoxy floor sealant was used in all cubicles for easy cleaning and to reduce staining.

Electric hand dryers, LED lighting, door & braille signage, and dual toilet roll holders were also installed. Again to keep up with the high traffic usage, and to cater to the entire community. In addition, baby change table units were fitted in WCC cubicles.

To finish external aluminium slatted screening was installed for protection from the elements, and an auto door locking system pre-fitted, so the restroom could be programmed to lock and unlock at designated hours.

“Terrain Group worked closely with all parties involved ending with an amazing outcome. Working with proactive local community associations helps us identify project priorities, support funding applications, and create outcomes that reflect each individual community’s goals.”
