Terrain Group was approached by DPTI Building Division late 2017 Te, to supply a shelter structure for the Aldinga Childrens Centre. The project was a particularly tricky one, in that access to the site was quite complicated, both physically, and also from the perspective that construction couldn’t happen while the children were on site. The childrens centre settled on the Seaside Shelter because it’s appealing curves complimented the surrounding space.
Because of the nature of the site access, the only option was to construct the shelter entirely on site, rather than pre-fabricating sections at Terrain’s headquarters and crane-lifting it in – not to mention the fact that there was no way to get a crane into the area in the first instance. The shelter was also customised to fit the specific location, which required a 4.5m span rather than our standard 4m span, in order to cover the sandpit area.
We created a custom gutter and drainpipe for the site specifics, the Childrens Centre now has an even more usable, safe space for the kids to enjoy their outdoor play time.
